What you’ll need: bug swatter, different colored materials (I got them for free from a company that sells curtains), a string, and two chairs.
How to play the game:
First of all, you’ll need to punch some holes through the textiles, then get them on the string. Tie both ends of the string to the chairs. The textiles should be within the children’s reach. When the teacher or another child names a color, one of the children will swat it. To make it more fun, say the colors faster and faster.
Tips and extra ideas:
- You can choose the order in which the children will come to the front by using a counting-out rhyme, such as Eeny Meeny Miny Moe.
- I suggest you have heavy chairs or ask two kids to sit on the chairs, to make sure they don’t fall down and hurt somebody.
- Bring two kids to the front and see who swats the color first.
- To make the game more interesting, hang the textiles from the ceiling with string, then let the kids jump to swat them.
- You can also play “Hop on it!” with the textiles: Place the pieces of fabric on the floor, then clap your hands and name a color. The child in the front has to jump on that color, then from that one to the next.
Have fun!
