Number and Colour Recognition Game

May 14, 2015      Leave a Comment

I bought foam dice a few days ago and I really wanted to use them, so I made a number recognition game for my kids (aged 3-5).

I used adhesive foam numbers and popsicle sticks, but you can use plain flashcards with numbers. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy.

How to play the game:
– the teacher indicates a colour, and the kid has to roll the die of that colour;
– she counts the number of dots on it;
– then finds that number on the popsicle stick.

The kids take turns, until they get all numbers (1-6).
Today we played a more complicated version of the game: the kids had to take “the magic wand” (the popsicle stick) with the right number on it, then put a spell on as many frogs as the number indicates and make them jump in a basket. We had 6 toy frogs and a small basket, so they also improved their hand-eye coordination. They really enjoyed playing the game, although the younger ones needed some help.
