Five for Friday Linky Party

February 5, 2016      4 Comments

Five for Friday is a weekly teacher linky party where bloggers post five random things about the past week. This linky party is hosted by Doodle Bugs Teaching, so if you’re curious to see lots of fun teaching ideas, hop over to this website.

Here are a couple of things I’ve enjoyed about my week…

The kids had some astronaut pretend play on Monday and Tuesday, so we decided to talk more about space and constellations. We made these cool looking paintings with glue, salt, and food colouring. The kids used pipettes to drop the colour onto the salted glue. It’s amazing to see how the salt absorbs the colour!

Because our kids love science, I made a very easy balance scale, using just a hanger, string, and cups. We placed different objects in the two cups and the kids had to say which of them was lighter and which one was heavier. They were very good at guessing!

On Friday we had some fun acting out Jack and the Beanstalk with stick puppets. Unfortunately, we were behind the drapes, so we didn’t have anybody to take photos. The amazing thing is that afterwards the kids got to play with the stick puppets, and one of them acted the story out in English (even though her mother tongue isn’t English).

We went sliding on a huge hill in a park nearby. It was awesome! And I was also able to join the kids, because we had less kids than usual (the normal ratio here is 1 teacher/7 kids, but being Friday we had even less!).

I needed to take some time off from reading “Where Good Ideas Come From” and I re-read the short, but educative “Positive Parenting for Imperfect Families” by Nicole Schwarz. It’s a great book for parents struggling to reconnect with their kids, deal with conflicts and anxiety issues.

That’s it for now…I’m tired and need to go to bed. I hope you all have an amazing weekend!

Thanks! To be honest, the painting I had made before the activity didn't turn out as nice as theirs. 🙂
